Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Maintenance supervisor, the Facility Maintenance Technician (Electrical) will be responsible for maintaining the facility and all production equipment by performing electrical maintenance which involves electrical installation and troubleshooting electrical and electronic circuits. In addition, the electrician should have a good mechanical aptitude.

Job Responsibilities

  • Knowledge in troubleshoot PLC (Allen Bradley, Siemen, Mitsubishi) VFD, DC Drives, AC & DC Motors, Servo Motors, network communications (Ethernet, Devicenet, Modbus, ControlNet) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA)
  • Routine Inspection on a routine basis electrical equipment, wiring, fixtures and other components to ensure they remain functional and are up to code, as well as to identify any hazards or issues.
  • Determine the root cause for malfunctions and create a plan to prevent or reduce these types of occurrences when possible.
  • Repair electrical & electronic circuits systems
  • Hands on experience with electrical testing tools such as multimeter, clamp meter
  • Able to read and understand electrical drawings and schematics from Europe & North America
  • Provide suggestions on the lifespan of equipment and other electrical components, advising when certain components should be replaced due to potential risks.
  • Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) specifically Fiix to tack and record all maintenance activities
  • Analyzing and resolve problems and report findings to the Maintenance Supervisor or Manager.
  • Ensure all food safety and occupational health and safety guidelines are adhered to and appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is worn by all staff.
  • Ensure and promote a safe work environment and report any unsafe conditions to the Maintenance supervisor or Manager.
  • Responsible for keeping and following schedule of items that require daily and periodic attention.
  • Take steps to maintain the morale and motivate maintenance personnel.
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Education and Experience

  • Industrial Electrician with Inter-Provincial Certificate of Qualification – Read Seal 442A
  • Minimum of 3 – 4 years experience is required (preferably in a food industry background).
  • College diploma in related field an asset

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and SQF / HACCP is desirable.
  • Ability to workdays, afternoon and nightshift
  • Ability to support an on-call program for afterhours team support on an as required basis.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with other plant personnel and convey needed information to the Maintenance Manager.
  • Excellent communication and motivation skills.
  • Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations.
  • Strong knowledge of plant maintenance and knowledge of the food industry is an asset.

Working Conditions

The Industrial Electrician is required to work in a fast paced and wet environment. Mental stress is relative to meeting tight deadlines and assuring competition of tasks prior to the start of daily production. Standing in awkward positions, climbing, lifting heavy loads and crawling in tight spaces is involved. May be required to work with hazardous materials.
